Mark Francis

Mark Francis, born in 1962 in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, developed his painterly style during the 1990s through his work with the Young British Artists. He later participated in the ground-breaking exhibition Absolute Vision, New British Painting in the 1990s at the Museum of Modern Art Oxford in 1996, as well as the Sensation at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, which later toured to the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin and the Brooklyn Museum in New York in 1997. Francis’ work has always had a strong association with the natural sciences, drawing inspiration from the shapes and patterns he explores through his passion for mycology.

Mark Francis’s work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions at galleries around the globe including Kerlin Gallery, Dublin, Ireland, the Mary Boone Gallery, New York City, and Maureen Paley, London since 1994. Additionally, Francis has been part of numerous group exhibitions, including Peninsula Arts Gallery, Plymouth University (2016), Cer Modern, Ankara (2015), Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven (2014), Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich (2011), the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (2008), the Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (1998) and Tate Gallery, London (1993). His works included in several important collections including the Tate Gallery, London, Arts Council England, British Council, London, Caldic Collection, Amsterdam, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts, Tokyo, Metropolitan Museum, New York, Museum of Modern Art, Miami, the Saatchi Collection, London and Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
