Artists

Jacco Olivier

Jacco Olivier combines painting and moving images to create short animations. Within this process, series of small paintings are continuously developed and altered, and are systematically photographed at each new stage. The digital photographs are later animated into short digital films that oscillate between the figurative and the abstract.

Jacco Olivier graduated from the Hogeschool voor Kunst en Vormgeving in 1996 and holds a postgraduate degree from the Rijksakademie Amsterdam. In 2002 he was awarded the Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture award. In 2015 he participated in the Venice Biennial. Important solo exhibitions include the Indianapolis Museum of Art (2016), Museum Hilversum (2014), GEM, The Hague (2014), Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg (2014), New York City Center, curated by the New Museum, New York (2012), Madison Square Park, New York (2012), Nederlands Instituut voor Mediakunst, Amsterdam (2012), CAB – Centro de Arte de Caja de Burgos (2010), The Art Museum of the University of Houston (2010), and I M ART, Seoul (2009).
